- THE LATEST EVOLUTION IN STORAGE FOR SUPER HIGH-SPEED VIDEO EDITING
SSD based on PCI express interface with Thunderbolt 3 connections delivers high bandwidth communication
Staines, UK – 6 November 2018: Freecom announces the launch in Europe of the mSSD Celeritas ThunderboltTM 3 Drive – the fastest drive of its kind that can transfer files up to 20 times quicker than hard disk drives – making it ideal for video content creators and business and IT professionals where the transfer of large data files at high speed is critical.
The new Freecom Celeritas can deliver stunning speeds of up to 2800 MB/s1 (read) and 2000 MB/s (write). Comparing with other storage devices, transferring 500GB of data to a regular hard disk drive (at 100-150 MB/s) would take over 60 minutes and a regular SSD (at 450–500MB/s) would take around 16 minutes, while saving to the mSSD Celeritas (at 2800 MB/s) would only take approximately 4 minutes.
“Freecom has been a leader in portable storage and solid state drives for years, and our new Celeritas Thunderbolt 3 drive continues our legacy of leadership and innovation,” said Martijn Hansbergen, Business Development Manager for Freecom. “We are confident that Celeritas, which is Latin for speed or swiftness, will exceed the expectations of video and photography professionals and all those seeking the fastest speeds available.”
A Thunderbolt 3 port can be used to connect a wide range of peripheral types to your computer. Thunderbolt is fast (see speed comparisons below), but also importantly, a Thunderbolt port is versatile and uses the common USB-C connector to connect to most modern devices.
The SSD is housed in a robust, industrial-looking silver enclosure which provides a very effective heatsink to keep the electronics components at an optimum temperature. It weighs 186g and measures 12.6mm x 6.0mm and 1.9mm (L x W x H) giving it both pocket-friendly portability and toughness.
The Freecom mSSD CELERITAS 1TB has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of around £609 / €679 and will be available in Europe from early October. It comes with a three-year manufacturer’s warranty and unlimited helpdesk support.
1Performance may vary depending on host configuration. To reach maximum transfer speeds of 2800 MB/s, the host device and connection cables must support Thunderbolt 3.
