Eschborn, Germany – January 14, 2014: Freecom, a Mitsubishi Kagaku Media company and award-winning manufacturer of external hard drives and portable storage devices, has unveiled Tough Drive SSD – a 256GB solid state drive (SSD) model within its prized Tough Drive family that is one of the world’s safest and fastest way to store and share data.

The Freecom Tough Drive SSD transforms your storage experience with incredibly fast data access time. Offering users data transfer speeds of up to 415MB/s*, the SSD has no moving parts and is therefore capable of accessing any location on the drive with equally fast speed and precision. The drive can easily withstand drops and shocks ensuring outstanding durability, high reliability and long life, attributes users readily associate with Freecom products.

The FAT-32 pre-formatted drive is immediately ready to be used on both PC and Mac. It is preloaded with Nero BackItUp software (for Windows only) that allows PC users full system backup and restore functions, the ability to schedule automatic backup by date/time. Additionally, users will find Info (for Windows only), software designed to display essential drive information as well as FSSD Formatter and FSSD Eraser (for Windows only) for easy and secure formatting.
 The drive can also be used for USB Recording which enables users to record programmes to an external storage device directly connected to a TV via USB and pause live TV. With USB Recording, an external USB hard drive becomes the replacement of a HDD/DVD recorder or even a VHS video recorder.
